Anyone who's flipping mad about the travel that goes with watching Southeast Texas high school football teams in the playoffs can calm down.
You'll just need to wait a year.
The expected availability of two premier football stadiums in Southeast Texas next year - one in Beaumont and one in Port Neches - will give area athletic directors and coaches a close-to-home option when they negotiate with out-of-town teams about playoff game sites.
Next year, the coin tosses could play a larger role in the determination of game sites - at least for Beaumont teams.
"If we get a team in the playoffs next year, we're flipping to get the game at home," said Beaumont ISD athletic director Rodney Saveat.
